Great Cycle Challenge

Hi,
This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge and my goal is to pedal 100 kilometres throughout the month to fight kids’ cancer!
Why am I doing this? Because right now, over 1,400 Canadian children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
The challenge will be tough, but nothing compared to what these brave kids face every day as they fight for their lives and battle this terrible disease.
And so to show my support, I am taking on my own personal challenge to raise $100 to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
But to achieve my goal, I need your help.
Please support my challenge and join me in the fight to save little lives by making a donation through my fundraising page.
Here’s the link to my page: www.greatcyclechallenge.ca/Riders/PeterFolk
All funds raised will support SickKids Foundation to provide care, develop treatments and find a cure for childhood cancers.
Thank you for your support.
Peter

Digestive Wellness

We recently participated in Mediaplanet’s Digestive Wellness campaign in which industry leaders and advocates came together to raise awareness of the millions of Canadians suffering from various digestive disorders including Celiac Disease, which can lead to major gastrointestinal problems and can be directly responsible for an array of illnesses including auto-immune diseases like Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease. The campaign provides valuable information on current treatments and nutritional diets for those living with digestive disorders. It was distributed through the National Post on March 31st, 2015 and is published online: http://bit.ly/1xSUGTy

Movember is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate Cancer Facts

One in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
• Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men – 26,500 Canadian men are diagnosed with the disease, and 4,000 Canadian men die from it each year.

• In 2013, over 238,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed and almost 30,000 men will die of prostate cancer in the US alone.

• The risk of contracting prostate cancer increases with age.

• The disease is often without symptoms in its earliest, most curable stage – making annual testing ever more important.

• It can be treated by surgery, radiation and hormone therapy.

• It is thought to be a potentially preventable cancer in many cases, but more research is needed.
